Traditionally associated with rural areas, agriculture has undergone a radical transformation in recent decades. Cities, with their dense populations and limited spaces, have become unexpected settings for food production. This trend, known as urban agriculture, offers a series of benefits for both citizens and the environment. Technological innovation has been a key catalyst in this process. Hydroponic and aeroponic systems allow food to be grown in small spaces, using less water and nutrients. Smart sensors monitor plant growth conditions, optimizing resource use. Additionally, robotics and artificial intelligence are automating agricultural tasks, increasing efficiency and precision. The benefits of urban agriculture are multiple. Firstly, it contributes to improving food security by bringing food production closer to consumers and reducing dependence on global supply chains. It promotes healthier eating habits by facilitating access to fresh and seasonal products. In addition, Urban agriculture contributes to revitalizing neighborhoods, creating green spaces and promoting social interaction. From an environmental point of view, urban agriculture offers a series of advantages. It helps reduce the carbon footprint associated with food transportation, improves air and soil quality, and contributes to mitigating the effects of climate change. Likewise, it promotes urban biodiversity and creates habitats for local fauna. From an environmental point of view, urban agriculture offers a series of advantages. However, urban agriculture also faces challenges, land availability, water quality and municipal regulation are some of the obstacles that must be overcome. Furthermore, it is necessary to guarantee that this activity is accessible to all citizens, preventing it from becoming an elitist practice. Urban agriculture represents a unique opportunity to transform our cities into more sustainable, healthy and resilient places, technological innovation, together with Appropriate public policies can promote the development of this sector and guarantee that its benefits reach all citizens.
