dc.descriptionIn 2012, the attacks carried out by the islamist forces of Ansar Dine and AQIM in Timbuktu led to the destruction of several buildings and sacred places that were part of the cultural heritage of this city, which also has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988. In an international war context such as the current one, the preservation of the cultural heritage of territories should be part of the strategy to be followed to achieve the SDGs. What is cultural heritage, what does it represent, how is it protected, and what role does it play in this case study, are some of the questions it seeks to answer through a review of a unique case that placed cultural heritage at the center of the international agenda, and which would later constitute the first sentence by the International Criminal Court for the destruction of cultural heritage.en
dc.descriptionEn 2012, los ataques perpetrados por las fuerzas islamistas de Ansar Dine y AQIM en Tombuctú provocaron la destrucción de distintos edificios y lugares sagrados que formaban parte del patrimonio cultural de esta ciudad. Estos lugares también pertenecían al conjunto del Patrimonio Mundial de la Humanidad de la Unesco desde 1988. En el contexto actual de conflictos internacionales, la conservación del patrimonio cultural de los territorios debería ser parte de la estrategia a seguir para el cumplimiento de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS). Qué es el patrimonio cultural, qué representa, cómo se protege, y qué papel desempeña en este caso de estudio, son algunas de las preguntas a las que se busca dar respuesta a través de un recorrido por un caso único que situó al patrimonio cultural en el centro de la agenda internacional, y que más tarde constituiría la primera condena de la Corte Penal Internacional por destrucción de patrimonio cultural.es
