dc.descriptionThis book aims to show why it is necessary to pay attention to the development of cities. It also insists that such development must be sustainable. In addition, it discusses the implications of the category habitat for sustainable urban development. In summary, the growing importance of cities and their development is due to the growth in the proportion of the world's urban population, which today exceeds the rural population, showing an unstoppable global mega-trend. Thus, what is proposed in this work, following the systemic thinking, is that we do not only inhabit an artificial and natural physical environment, but that we inhabit and interact in a social system, involving subsystems: political, economic and cultural, etc. Therefore, the rest of the document condenses the theoretical advances that exist on the subject of sustainable development and habitat in the last half century; these advances are condensed into six thematic axes, with which the authors have structured this book.en
