| Description: | The increase and accelerated accumulation of polymers due to poor handling of petroleum-derived plastic waste over the years have generated an unfavorable impact on the environment. However, the use of new alternative materials that are biodegradable, recyclable, sustainable, and that does not generate a negative effect is currently being promoted. The objective of this review was to analyze the current panorama and the studies related to the development of bioplastics that use natural biopolymers. The effect of polymers, possible ecological alternatives, the influence of biopolymers on the environment, and the development of bioplastics with these new materials that can be used in industry for their economic, social, and environmental advantages are analyzed. El incremento y acumulación acelerada de polímeros por un mal manejo de los residuos plásticos derivados del petróleo a través de los años ha generado un impacto no favorable en el medio ambiente. Sin embargo, actualmente se promueve la utilización de nuevas alternativas de materiales que sean biodegradables, reciclables, sustentable y que no generen un efecto negativo. El objetivo de esta revisión fue analizar el panorama actual y los estudios relacionados con el desarrollo de bioplásticos que emplean biopolímeros naturales. Se analiza el efecto de los polímeros, las posibles alternativas ecológicas, la influencia de los biopolímeros en el medio ambiente y el desarrollo de bioplásticos con estos nuevos materiales que se pueden emplear en la industria por sus ventajas económicas, sociales y ambientales. |
