Description:	Las semillas son unidades reproductivas que almacenan aceite, almidón y proteínas, la proporción de estos componentes varían dependiendo de la especie; en zapallo se han realizado investigaciones para los componentes de rendimiento en fruto y caracteres agroindustriales en la pulpa, sin embargo, conocer la semilla es un paso necesario hacia la selección de semilla por mayor tamaño correlacionado con mayor contenido de aceite. El objetivo de esta investigación fue determinar la variación del tamaño de la semilla de zapallo en tres cultivares de la especie Cucurbita moschata Duchesne. Se empleó semilla de zapallo, la cual fue acondicionada hasta humedad del 12% para determinar el color, largo, ancho y espesor y, peso unidad de semilla (PUS), se empleó un diseño de bloques completos al azar con tres (3) cultivares y veinte (20) repeticiones por cultivar. Se identificó que, la semilla del cultivar Unapal Abanico 75 posee semilla de color café de mayor tamaño con respecto a los otros cultivares, la información de este estudio es el punto de partida que abre la posibilidad de seleccionar semilla de zapallo con mayor tamaño, PUS y extracto etéreo, caracteres de interés en la agroindustria. Seeds are reproductive units that store oil, starch and proteins, the proportion of these components varies depending on the species; in butternut squash, research has been carried out for the yield components in fruit and agribusiness characters in the pulp, however, knowing the seed is a necessary step towards the selection of seed for larger size correlated with higher oil content. The objective of this research was to determine the variation in the size of the butternut squash seed in three cultivars of the species Cucurbita moschata Duchesne. Butternut squash seed was used, which was conditioned to 12% humidity to determine the color, length, width and thickness and seed unit weight (SUW). A randomized complete block design was used with three (3) cultivars and twenty (20) repetitions per cultivar. It was identified that the seed of the Unapal Abanico 75 cultivar has a larger brown seed compared to the other cultivars. The information from this study is the starting point that opens the possibility of selecting butternut squash seeds with larger size, SUW and ether extract, traits of interest in the agroindustry.
