    Abstract
    La microbiota intestinal produce la mayoría de proteínas y minerales degradados que le sirven al cuerpo en los procesos metabólicos, en los últimos años se están adelantando ensayos científicos para avanzar en el conocimiento de una manera más práctica y definitiva en los problemas que se presentan en la parte gastrointestinal, uno de estos procedimientos son los trasplantes fecales que son de importancia para proponer un tratamiento contra el colon irritable y el cáncer de colon, todos estos problemas que afectan la salud de las personas. Otra propuesta de solución a estos problemas son los probióticos, que tienen la finalidad proporcionar a las bacterias benéficas encapsuladas en pastillas para que sean aprovechadas por el organismo con el fin de restaurar la microbiota de la persona afectada. En este artículo se pondrá en evidencia el interés y la importancia de la microbiota intestinal, además se expondrán sus diversas funciones de protección y defensa. Adema se incluye la relación con el sistema inmune, el cual al ser alterado por algún patógeno se ve comprometido produciendo diversidad de patologías que afectan el organismo de una manera severa causando desde la obesidad hasta la muerte.
