dc.description	This article refers to the evolution and conceptual perspectives of instructional theory (it) and Distance education (ed). What is observed in the historical development of concepts is that the field of educational technology has overlapped with that of distance education and still, particularly given the conceptual differences remain ed to cause confusion. This is seen in the definitions cited by Schlosser and Simonson (2006): For Manfred the ed is an activity, for Perraton (1988) the ed is an educational process, for the Department of Education United States, the ed is the application of telecommunications; Rumble (1989) defined as a process and method, the French government as a education that involves no physical presence, for Peters (1995) is a method, for Holmberg, the ed covers various forms of study, for Moore (1994) is a family of instructional methods and Edwards defined as an approach. In Colombia, the Higher Education Act (Law 30 of 1992) defined it as a methodology and the Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia (unad) the conceptualized as a modality. At the end of the article, in the conclusions I propose a reflection on the debate in Colombia between the ed as a form design, methodology or method.	en
dc.description	En este artículo se hace referencia a la evolución y perspectivas conceptuales de las teorías instruccionales (ti) y de la educación a distancia (ed). Lo que se observa en el desarrollo histórico de los dos conceptos en la perspectiva anglosajona es que el campo de la tecnología educativa se ha solapado con el de la educación a distancia y que aún, en particular frente a la ed, persisten diferencias conceptuales que causan confusión. Esto último se observa en las definiciones citadas por Schlosser y Simonson (2006): para Manfred la ed es una actividad; para Perraton (1988) la ed es un proceso educativo; para el Departamento de Educación de Estados Unidos, la ed es la aplicación de las telecomunicaciones; Rumble (1989) la define como proceso y como método; la del gobierno francés como aquella educación que no implica presencia física; para Peters (1988) es un método; para Holmberg (1995), la ed cubre varias formas de estudio; para Moore (1994) es una familia de métodos instruccionales; y, Edwards (1996) la define como enfoque. En Colombia, la Ley 30 de Educación Superior la definió como una metodología y, para la Universidad nacional Abierta y a Distancia (unad) es una Modalidad. Al final del artículo en las conclusiones se propone una reflexión sobre el debate colombiano entre concebir la ed como modalidad, metodología o método.	es
