El desarrollo socioeconómico se encuentra aparejado a la noción de Estado de bienestar (E.B.), pero debido al rezago en el que muchos países se han quedado durante la carrera hacia el progreso a partir de la segunda posguerra, solo algunos se encuentran en este escenario. Tal fue el caso de Europa Occidental, que consciente de sus carencias, se apoyó en el Plan Marshall para implementar una cooperación regional sin precedentes, pudiendo materializar su propio E.B. Como contrapartida, en América Latina aún persiste el reto de elaborar un inventario colectivo sobre los recursos y requerimientos necesarios para cubrir las carencias comunes en aras de que se adopte el modelo de E.B. propio a sus circunstancias socio-históricas, distintas al contexto bélico vivido en Europa. Lamentablemente, en Latinoamérica no hay una voz unificada a pesar de los organismos regionales que se han creado para atender cuestiones de desarrollo, aunado a una desorganización internacional (principalmente en temas trascendentales como la actual pandemia), colocando en peligro el progreso de las sociedades que la integran. En dicho punto de inflexión, este artículo argumenta la importancia que tiene el sector académico y las universidades en la creación y el fortalecimiento de los sistemas políticos de los Estados, proponiendo que corresponda a ellos propiciar el diálogo pertinente para conocer cuáles son las carencias sociales que el modelo de E.B. latinoamericano debe cubrir y con qué medios podría funcionar, considerando el contexto post-pandémico que se avecina, que no hará más que agravar estas deficiencias sociales en la región.Socio-economic development is related to the notion of Welfare State (W.S.), but as many countries have lagged during the race for progress since the second postwar period, only some find themselves in this scenario of welfare. Such was the case of Western Europe, which, aware of its shortcomings, relied on the Marshall Plan to implement an unprecedented regional cooperation, being able to materialize its own W.S. On the other hand, in Latin America there is still the challenge of drawing up a collective inventory of the resources and requirements necessary to cover common deficiencies to adopt the W.S. that suits its socio-historical circumstances, different from the warlike context lived in Europe. Unfortunately, in Latin America there is no unified voice despite the regional organizations that have been created to address development issues, besides the international disorganization (mainly on transcendental issues such as the current pandemic), endangering the progress of its societies. At this inflection point, this article argues the importance of the academic sector and universities in the creation and strengthening of political systems, proposing that it corresponds to them to promote the relevant dialogue to learn what the social deficiencies are that must be covered by the Latin-American W.S. model, and which means it could work with, considering the looming post-pandemic context that will only aggravate these social deficiencies in the region.
