De acuerdo con la Federación Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia, la caficultura es el renglón productivo más importante del departamento del Huila por su participación en la producción total nacional (18.07%), generando ingresos y empleo productivo. Las mayores expectativas se encuentran en el café especial y es a lo que se está apuntando en estos últimos años; en ese campo se ha crecido sorprendentemente ya que el caficultor huilense está muy interiorizado que va por el camino correcto para garantizar calidad y sostenibilidad. Al cierre del 31 de diciembre del 2015 de acuerdo con el Comité Departamental del Huila de la Federación Nacional de Cafeteros en Colombia, el Huila cafetero está compuesto por 101.263 fincas cafeteras donde trabajan 82.017 cafeteros. En la actualidad, el departamento cuenta con 154.090 hectáreas de café repartidas en 35 municipios productores de café que están reunidos en 5 seccionales Acevedo, Pitalito, garzón, Neiva y la Plata. El café representa el 7.8% del PIB del Huila, y es el 52% del PIB Agropecuario, 301 mil personas dependen del cultivo de café (68% de la población rural huilense), Genera 31.000.000 de jornales de todo el sector agropecuario, equivalente al 73%, generando 110.400 empleos directos y 98.000 empleos indirectos. El 96% de los caficultores son pequeños propietarios de ltivos donde la finca tiene una extensión promedio de 1,5 hectáreas, los cuales responden por el 81% de la producción huilense, representa el 43.8% de las exportaciones tradicionales del Huila, con el 9.3% del volumen de producción Agropecuaria departamental, aporta el 39.7% del Valor de ésta, en total la producción de café en el 2015 fue de 2.445.752 sacos de 60 Kg c/u. Taking into account that La Plata is one of the most influential coffee sections of Huila, occupying the third position in the production of the grain at the departmental level and the importance that this represents, we wanted to focus an analysis on the financial knowledge that coffee growers have at when harvesting, determining if they are really aware of the profits they represent.
